Hut site in Tiduff

Hut site

What is recorded here

Inside the western half of a Kerry ringfort, a six-and-a-half-metre circular mark still appears on the 1916 survey, perhaps showing the shadow of a hut that once gave a person warmth, shelter or a place to think. The main fort already claimed the land, yet this smaller circle suggests life was not one broad gesture but several fitted together. Someone may have stood there in rain, watched the door gap or listened for another person returning.
Depicted as a circular feature (diam. c. 6.5m) on the 1916 OS 6-inch map in the W half of the interior of the Ringfort - rath (KE013-019----). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne Date of upload: 20 August 2013
