Hut site

What is recorded here

'Chamber 1, this is a circular stone structure, 3m in maximum diameter, roughly corbelled using large slabs and boulders of limestone. It is roofed with large limestone flags, a portion of which is now obscured by a growth of peat and heather. A north-facing entrance is 0.5m m high and 0.5m wide. The access and the interior is too small to be a hut site. It has a maximum height of 1m.' The above description was published in F. Coyne, 'Islands in the clouds: an upland archaeological study on Mount Brandon and the Paps, Co. Kerry.' (Kerry Co. Council in association with Aegis Archaeology, 2006). Date of upload: 15 December 2011
