What is recorded here
Three small square hut sites cling to the SE slope of Leahan Mountain, their drystone walls half swallowed by heather and rush. The middle chamber survives two courses high, its east wall robbed out entirely, while the others blur into one another across a metre of damp pasture. They face the sea and Slieve League, joined in a clustered settlement that suggests neighbours rather than hermits. Whatever life moved through these narrow rooms, the mountain kept it shallow, letting only angle and gap remain.
In poorly drained rushy covered mountain pasture, on the SE facing slope of Leahan Mountain with views of the sea to the S and Slieve League to the W. There is a clustered settlement of several hut sites (DG089-026004-/010-) 110m to the E. The poorly preserved heather covered remains of what appears to be three small square-shaped adjoining hut sites (DG089-026001/002/003-) or possibly the remains of a single rectangular house with three square-shaped chambers. The wall footings of the W wall of a third possible hut site(DG089-026003-) runs off the NW angle of the second hut site. The middle hut site consists of the remains of a square hut site (int. dims. 2.7m E-W x 1.8m N-S) defined by a heather-covered, partially collapsed drystone wall (T 0.9m; H 0.5m) which survives 2 courses high. The N wall is the best preserved with only half of the S wall upstanding and the whole of the E wall has been robbed out. There is a possible entrance gap at the S end of the E wall. The second hut site (DG089-026002-) is only 1m to the S and a third hut site appears to run off the NW angle of this hut site. The drystone walls of the second hut site are not as well built as the first hut site. Located in an area of a dense concentration of hut sites which appear to make up a clustered settlement (DG089-026001/021).
