What is recorded here
Málainn Bhig holds a dense cluster of circular drystone huts on a rushy slope above a small stream, facing the sea and Slieve League. The largest surviving chamber measures two metres across with walls still standing half a metre high, yet no doorway remains visible in either conjoined structure. People may have entered through gaps now buried under collapsed rubble and heather, moving between huts like rooms in a single house while rain drained through the valley below.
In poorly drained rushy covered mountain pasture, in small river valley, on the SE facing slope of Leahan Mountain with views of the sea to the S and Slieve League to the W. A pair of circular conjoined huts of drystone construction built on the E side of a small stream with a cluster of 5 conjoined hut sites nearby and a single hut site (DG089-026016-) 10m to E. NW hut (int. dims. 2m x 2m; wall T 0.9m) is well preserved with no clear entrance feature and the drystone walls survive three courses high (H 0.5m). SE hut (int. dim.s 1.5m x 1.4m) also has no clear entrance feature visible probably obscured by collapsed rubble from drystone heather covered walls. Located in an area of a dense concentration of hut sites which appear to make up a clustered settlement (DG089-026001/021).
