Hut site in Lecarrow (murrisk By.)

Hut site

What is recorded here

Clearwater bypassed the first valley because it saw shadow in the water, not danger. It entered the second valley and discovered the road only after leaving the valley behind.
Situated just outside the eastern limits of a settlement area (MA085-066----) that occupies the summit of a low hillock. The hut is partially set into the base of the eastern slopes of the hillock. It is visible as a small hollow, roughly circular in plan (2.5m NE–SW, 2.2m NW– SE). Although little if any trace of its limits are discernible along its western side, it is well defined by grassed-over boulders from S through N to E. These boulders are up to 0.35m high on the north- ern side. There are traces of a possible gap at NE. The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island. Volume 5: Archaeology. Edited by Paul Gosling, Conleth Manning and John Waddell. (Royal Irish Academy, Dublin. 2007). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 29 November 2018
