Hut site in Glannafeen

On W-facing slope overlooking Lough Hyne. Circular area (6m N-S; 6m E-W) defined by circle of stones (H 0.3m; thickness 0.9m); portal stones mark entrance to N, 1.65m apart (E stone H 1.8m; 1.2m x 0.35m: W stone H 2.15m; 0.8m x 0.26m). Excavated by O Cuileanáin (1955, 94-99). Walls constructed of alternating upright stones and dry-stone masonry with central posthole. Elaborate double flue extends from circular hearth outwards under wall; O Cuileanáin suggests function as iron smelting. Finds include iron slag, furnace linings, tuyeres and stone implement.
