Hut site in Earlspark

Hut site

What is recorded here

Earlspark preserves a circular hut in the centre of its hillfort and a possible rectangular house in the southern sector. The circular shape suggests an ordinary dwelling rather than a grand ceremonial chamber, while the rectangular outline hints that different rooms or functions shared the same defended landscape. Together they sketch a small settlement where people lived, worked and remembered the place enough for its marks to survive.
A circular hut site is visible in the centre of the interior of the hillfort enclosure (GA105-205----) and a possible house site (GA105-205002-), rectangular in plan, is visible in the S sector. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 August 2019
