Hut site in Dunmurry West

Hut site

What is recorded here

Dunmurry Hill on the upper SE-facing slope at 769 feet, a shallow circular depression seven metres across and thirty centimetres deep, sits inside a hillfort beside a mound and another possible hut site. The low scarp on the east and west, the bedrock face on the north, and the gentle counter-scarp on the south suggest a small dwelling cut into the hill rather than built above it. Whoever lived there would have faced the sunrise, leaned against cold stone at the north edge, and known the shape of the place by heart.
On the upper, SE-facing slope of Dunmurry Hill (OD 769 feet) some 30m SSE of a mound (KD022-001003-) and 10m NNW of a second possible hut site (KD022-001005-), all contained in a hillfort (KD022-001001-). A shallow, circular depression (diam. 7m; D 0.3m) is defined by a low scarp along the E and W, by a low bedrock face (H 0.4m) along the N, and by a gentle counter-scarp along the S.
