Cuchullin's Bed and Grave in Dromavally is not a heroic burial at all but a cluster of rough sheep shelters and one possible circular hut. The grand name misled people for generations, dressing ordinary farm stone in mythic cloth. A warrior does not rot inside a sheep pen, yet the local tongue kept his name because naming the strange makes the strange familiar.

Cuchullin's Bed and Grave/Leaba agus Uaigh Chúchulainn: Though the features at this site have previously been interpreted as graves and cairns (OSM; Borlase 1897, 2; Killanin and Duignan 1962, 44), the present remains constitute a number of roughly-built enclosures and shelters, probably for sheep. Amongst these is a circular foundation, 3m in diameter and up to 1m high, which may have been a hut site. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
