Hut site in Derrycreeveen

In rough grazing, in a sheltered hollow on the S-facing slopes of Bere Island. The remains of a circular hut site (diam. 5.2m) defined by a partially sod-covered stone wall (T 1.2m; H 0.5m). The interior is obscured by rubble and is raised (H 0.3m) at the W and cut (D 0.2m) into the upslope at the E. The entrance (Wth 0.7m) at the E is indicated by parallel upright slabs (H 0.5m). The remains of a separate external wall (L c. 15m; T 1m; H 0.3m), whose function is unclear, curves NE-S. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
