Derreenboy Upper holds two hut sites and a small enclosure on a narrow terrace halfway up a steep rocky ridge. They face Barley Lake through rough grazing, backed by bare rock and reached by a gully that climbs toward the summit. People may have used the ledge to watch weather, keep fire, or simply remain above the lake while the land pressed close around them.

Group of two hut sites (CO104-053----, CO104-053001-) and a small enclosure (CO104-053002-) situated on a level terrace about half way up a steep, rocky ridge overlooking Barley Lake to the north, in an area of rough grazing.
