Hut site in Coolnagoppoge (glanarought By., Banawn Ed)

New site identified by John Cronin & Associates (JCA) under Licence No. 16E0127 prior to wind farm development in Coolnagoppoge, Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry by ESB Wind Development Ltd. The remains of a previously unidentified probable hut site were discovered to the south an existing small farm track in Coolnagoppoge townland and to the south of the proposed new access road at ITM Grid Co-ordinate 507468, 571402. The feature is defined by the remnants of two low drystone walls evident to the immediate west and south of a large natural boulder which forms the northern side of the structure. A large stone slab forms part of the eastern enclosing element of the rectangular structure, the space between this slab and the southern wall remnants likely represents the entrance. The maximum dimensions of the feature are 2m east to west and 1.9m north to south, the boulder has a maximum height of 0.80m within the internal area of the feature, it extends into the hillside on its north side. The low wall remnants are only 0.20m to 0.30m in height and c.0.40m in width. See attached photograph courtesy John Cronin.
