What is recorded here

New site identified by John Cronin & Associates (JCA) under Licence No. 16E0127 prior to wind farm development in Coolnagoppoge, Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry by ESB Wind Development Ltd. The extant remains of a previously unidentified raised rectangular enclosure were discovered c.30m east of CH16 at ITM Grid Co-ordinate 507146, 571625. The feature is defined by a bank of earth and stone 23.3m in length (NW-SE) and 9.6m in width (NE-SW). This overgrown bank of stones and earth is 0.45m in width and up to 1.5m in height in places, is surrounded by a small outer scarp around its perimeter. The internal ground area of the enclosure is slightly raised above the surrounding land. This site most likely represents a livestock enclosure. See attached photograph courtesy John Cronin.
