Hut site in Commons West (bear By.)

In rough hill pasture, on a terrace on the W-facing stony slopes of Miskish Mountain and within a network of relict field boundaries (CO114-084011-). The remains of a circular hut site (diam. 2.1m) defined by a collapsed drystone wall (T 0.45m; H 0.4m) which consists mainly of larger stones. The level interior, which is obscured by rubble, is raised (H 0.3m) at the W and cut (D 0.3m) into the upslope at the E to compensate for the hillslope. A hut site (CO114-084002-) adjoins this hut site at the N and another (CO114-084004-) is c. 12m to the N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
