Hut site in Commons West (bear By.)

In rough hill pasture, on a N-S terrace on the W-facing stony slopes of Miskish Mountain and within a network of relict field boundaries (CO114-084011-). The remains of an oval hut site (3.9m N-S; 3.1m E-W) defined by the collapsed lower courses of a drystone wall (T 0.5m; H 0.55m). Some of the collapse is scattered in the interior of the hut site and along the perimeter. The level interior is raised (H 0.25m) at the W and cut (D 0.3m) into the upslope at the E to compensate for the hillslope. A hut site (CO114-084004-) is c. 70m to the N and another hut site (CO114-084006-) is c. 20m to the S. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
