Hut site

What is recorded here

Located high up on the N-facing slopes of Tooreennamna Mountain, overlooking Ardgroom Harbour and Kenmare Bay. The remains of an oval hut site (2.6m E-W; 1.7m N-S) defined by a collapsed drystone wall (T 0.55m; H 0.4m). Some large slabs were used in the wall construction. The interior is obscured by rubble and is raised (H 0.3m) at the N and cut (D 0.25m) into the upslope at the S to compensate for the hillslope. Another hut site (CO103-041003-) is 2m to the NE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
