Indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of St John's parish depicts a house close to the E edge of Neworchard townland with a trees drawn to the N, W and S of the house and annotated 'orchard' (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). The terrier accompanying the parish map lists 'Michael Radgett' as the proprietor in 1640, and relates that, 'In New orchard [there is] a good orchard' (ibid.). The house and orchard correspond to a house and farmyard indicated at this location on the 1st (18339-40) ed. OS 6-inch map and on the 1945-6 revision it is named, 'New Orchard'.
