House

A stone house in repair at Kilbride/Courtown is listed amongst as part of the Manor of Prospect (WX007-049----) in 1641, the property of Edward Chichester (Simington 1953, 35), to whom it had come through marriage. The house at Kilbride may have been leased by John Cooke in 1642, and it may have become the centre of the Chichester estates in Wexford. In 1711 the Courtown property passed to John Stopford, ancestor of the Earls of Courtown. The location of the house is not known, but it may have been where Courtown House, an 18th century building now removed (Bence-Jones 1978, 93), was later built.
