Ballysheehan House is an example of a 19th-century house with no evidence of any building earlier in the vicinity of the present house. In the Civil Survey description of Ballysheehan there is mention of a 'bigg thatch house with severall Cottages', the lands being owned by John Hackett in 1640 (Simington 1931,vol. 1, 215). There is no evidence that this house was located in or near the present big house marked on the six inch OS 6-inch maps as Ballysheehan House.
