Detached three- or four-bay single-storey farmhouse with half-dormer attic, extant 1840, on a T-shaped plan centred off-on single-bay single-storey gabled projecting porch. Reroofed, ----. For sale, 2007. Now disused. Replacement pitched artificial slate roof; replacement pitched (gabled) artificial slate roof (porch), ridge tiles, red brick Running bond chimney stacks having stepped capping, and plastic rainwater goods on timber eaves boards. Rendered, ruled and lined battered wall to front (east) elevation; rendered surface finish (remainder). Square-headed off-central door opening with concealed dressings framing timber panelled door. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills, and concealed dressings framing two-over-two timber sash windows. Road fronted.
A farmhouse representing an integral component of the domestic built heritage of Riverchapel with the underlying vernacular basis of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form; the battered silhouette with a flaking surface finish revealing evidence of "daub" or mud; the disproportionate bias of solid to void in the massing; and the high pitched roofline. Furthermore, an adjacent "tin roofed" outbuilding (extant 1921) continues to contribute positively to the group and setting values of a neat self-contained ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in a coastal village street scene presently (2007) undergoing extensive "suburban" development.
