House near Castle Pit

House

What is recorded here

Castle Pit in Merthyr Tydfil still holds the angle of a house built during the 19th Century. The stones may have marked a boundary, a workshop or a home, but the pit gives the area its name and the house gives the pit a human edge. That much is enough to picture lantern light, tool noise and the ordinary risk of living beside an open wound in the ground.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records House near Castle Pit as House from the 19th Century period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
