What is recorded here
Situated in the interior of a moated site (TN028-061001) in poorly drained upland pasture. The sod-covered remains of a long, rectangular house (ext. dims 25m NE-SW x 9m NW-SE), orientated on a NE-SW axis, is located against the N bank of the moated site. There is evidence of a grass-covered partition dividing the building into two rooms. The site is indicated on the 1901-5 ed. OS 6-inch map but not on the 1st (1840) ed. which may indicate a recent date for its construction.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
