Kilmurry Castle stands as a sixteenth-century tower house later joined by a ruined seventeenth-century fortified house, creating a layered defensible residence in County Kerry. The structure suggests generations lived beneath stone walls built to resist invasion, perhaps watching storms or enemies approach from elevated windows. Its ruined state preserves more than destruction; it records adaptation, where older strength was extended rather than replaced.

Barrington (1976, 230) describes 'Kilmurry Castle..., a 16th century tower house [KE040-062001-] to which was added a now much ruined fortified house of the early part of the 17th century.'
