Home Down rises to approximately 160 metres above sea level and is part of the North Wessex Downs, an area of chalk upland with Iron Age and Roman archaeological remains. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its chalk grassland habitat and contributes to the regional landscape character of southern England.
