Holy well in Tullyhorky

Holy well

What is recorded here

St. Columba's Well in Tullyhorky stood neglected near the Donegal Road when a child recorded it in 1937, reducing a sacred spring to a forgotten ditch. The boy likely dipped his hand into cold water that touched no stone marker, proving divine grace does not need plaits or praise to flow. columba himself may have knelt there before roads existed, drinking from the earth while men were still learning the shape of heaven.
Unlocated holy well known as St. Columba's Well within the townland of Tullyhorky which was described in the 1937/8 Schools Folklore Collection where it was recorded that the well was an, 'unfrequented and neglected spring of St. Columba in Tullyhurk near the Donegal Road' (Reel 241 v1032 p475-476). Compiled by Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: 06 January 2012
Linked to St. Columba, the well was traditionally associated with healing and was known to have a small, unfrequented spring with a surrounding stone structure. Local tradition suggests it may have been used for simple water rituals, though specific cures or detailed folklore connected to the site are not well recorded.
