Red well. Knockduff Upper, west bank of the Dalua, where a pump house now covers the mouth of the water. People called it Tobar na gCloc Dearg because a priest was killed there and his blood marked the stones; others called it Our Lady’s well and walked rounds beside it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the custom thinned and stopped. The water may have been clean, holy or simply remembered as both, but the red name is the one that stayed sharp.

On W bank of River Dalua. Pump house now covers well. According to local information, well was dedicated to 'Our Lady'; also local tradition that blood on stones of priest killed there gave it name 'Tobar na gCloc Dearg'. According to Bowman (1934, 127), formerly a holy well but 'rounds, long since discontinued, were paid on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.' The well is dedicated to 'Our Lady' (the Virgin Mary) and is associated with a local tradition that it was named 'Tobar na gCloc Dearg' (Well of the Red Stones) due to the blood of a priest said to have been killed there, staining the stones red. This links the site to both Marian devotion and a historical or folkloric account of martyrdom.
