Holy well in Kilmacullagh

Holy well

What is recorded here

Unlocated holy well within the townland of Kilmacullagh. According to Lynch (1994, 641) there is a holy well known as ‘St Brigid’s Well’ in the townland of Kilmacullagh that is mentioned in the 1930s Irish Folklore Commission, Schools Manuscript Collection (IFC S 927: 248; IFC S 928: 62). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 22 January 2013
Linked to St Brigid, the well is associated with traditional healing practices and was likely a site of pilgrimage and devotion, reflecting the widespread veneration of the saint in early Christian Ireland. Local folklore may have connected the well to blessings for fertility, health, or protection, as was common with many St Brigid holy wells.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
