Holy well in Drummans (rosclogher By., Aghanlish Ed)

Holy well

What is recorded here

Conwal graveyard in Drummans may have hidden a holy well, though no one now knows where the water emerged. That uncertainty does not weaken the claim; it preserves the shape of the lost place. A container for water, a drinking place, a marking stone or a lane beside the grave field may have carried the ritual into ordinary life. The forgotten well is not nothing. It is a hole in the visible world through which the older world still breathes.
There is a record of a holy well (Faughnan 1943, 137) at Conwal graveyard (LE003-008002-), which is not substantiated and the precise location of which is not known. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 22 December, 2015
