Holy well in Carrowntedaun: cliff-edge spring south of a small beach near Lahinch, enclosed in mortared sea-rolled stones with a cross and candle canopy. Local tradition holds that water from the well eased sore eyes and leg pain, and that people once performed rounds at it. The sea may have tested the stones, but the water still belongs to the land, and the land still gives it back.

On a cliff edge just S of a small beach some 3km S of Lahinch. A spring well, immediately inside a field wall, indicated and named ‘Well’ on the OS 25-inch map. It is enclosed by a wall built of mortared sea-rolled stones. A cross stands over the well with an inscription that reads ‘St. Senan’s Holy Well, 2003’. Beside it a canopy of similarly built, mortared, sea-rolled stones is erected over an opening housing statues and candles. Reference to the well in the School’s Collection (vol. 0621, page 301) on Duchas.ie in 1937 states that the well was known to cure sore eyes and pains in the legs. ‘Rounds’ were known to have been performed at the well some 20 years previously. Linked to Saint Gobnait, the well is traditionally associated with cures for eye ailments and general healing. Locally, it is said that the saint once visited the area, and the waters were believed to have miraculous properties, attracting pilgrims who still leave offerings at the site.
