Holy wells in Belvelly: Páirc Béice, field of the uproar, had one where rounds were made in times past. The name still sounds like voices arguing over water, and the forgotten well may have been the heart of that noise.
According to Power (1918, 223) Páirc Béice (field of the uproar) contained a well where 'rounds were made in times past'. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
