Holy well in Bahana (king)

Unlocated holy well within the townland of Bahana. According to Lynch (1994, 639) there is a holy well in the townland of Bahana that is mentioned in the 1930s Irish Folklore Commission, Schools Manuscript Collection ( IFC S 921: 24-25). The folklore manuscripts recorded the tradition that the well was ‘said to have curative properties’ (Lynch 1994, 639). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 22 January 2013

Linked to Saint Gobnait, the well is traditionally associated with cures for eye ailments and was a site of pilgrimage. Local folklore notes that the water was collected on specific feast days and was believed to have healing properties when used with prayer.
