Lych-gate, built c.1870. Pitched timber framed roof with pantiles. Timber trussed frame with rafters and purlins, supported by timber knee-braces on moulded yellow brick consoles. Red brick gate piers with limestone bands and tooled limestone plinths with broaches to corners, having red brick pilasters with ashlar limestone caps. Carved double-leaf timber panelled doors with chamfered edges, stop-chamfers and perforated trefoils to upper panels. Wrought-iron strap hinges and limestone threshold. Flanked by roughcast rendered rubble stone wall with rendered coping enclosing graveyard.

Located at the entrance to Holy Trinity Church (Rathclarin), this colourful lych gate is an attractive feature in the surrounding landscape. Lych gates such as this are unusual in Ireland, being more commonly found in Britain. Its red brick and limestone construction repeats that of the church tower, while the survival of its original fabric adds much to its character and charm.
