HMS Audacious was a British battleship launched in 1914 and lost on October 27, 1914, when it struck a mine off the coast of Kinnaird Head, Scotland, shortly after commissioning. The ship sank within minutes, resulting in the loss of 642 crew members; no survivors were reported. It remained the largest British warship lost in World War I until the sinking of HMS *Hood* in 1940.
