Killowen, Cuil-Raithin and Bannin mark one continuous human presence in Coleraine, stretching from early Christian times through the middle ages into the modern day. The names layer like sediment, each language adding a claim to the same land. People lived, worked and forgot themselves into the soil before any map existed. What is recorded now is only the shadow of that longer occupancy.
