Henry de Vere Stacpoole

Kingstown, now Dún Laoghaire, gave birth to Henry de Vere Stacpoole in 1863, the last son of a schoolmaster and a mother whose Canadian childhood shaped his lifelong love of wild nature. He fled a cruel boarding school through a girls' college before finding his voice among writers in London, eventually crafting The Blue Lagoon and other strange tales of doubles and desire. The sea town that released him into the world still hides that boy's breath beneath its waves.
