Hearth in Beltra (tirawley By., Lackan Par.)

Hearth

What is recorded here

Hearth in Beltra (tirawley By., Lackan Par.) is a charcoal hearth inside a burial mound on the seaward edge of County Mayo. Fire and death shared one small place, suggesting people still cooked or prayed beside the dead long after the mound closed. The sea has since bitten into the mound and exposed the burnt layer, turning a private ritual into a warning about how quickly memory erodes.
