Crusader headstone in Crumlin graveyard, Dublin, marks Elenor Higgins, dead July 20, 1622 or 1692, its date blurred by time or mistake. A Latin cross rises from the H of IHS above her name, framing the grave in sacred geometry. She may have been a merchant’s wife, a prayerfully remembered mother, or simply a woman important enough to cut stone. The heading still stands though the townland has been forgotten, proving that love can outlast memory itself.

The precise location of an early 17th century headstone in Crumlin graveyard (DU018-038002-) marking the grave of Elenor Higgens who died in 1622 has not been identified. The shouldered headstone has an incised Latin Cross rising from the cross-bar of the H of the I H S christogram below which there is the following inscription; 'Here Lies The Body of Mrs Elenor Higgins who Departed This Life July Ye 20 Ano 1692 [1622?)' all of which is framed by an incised border running around the edge of the headstone.
