What is recorded here

Inishcaltra is a holy island where a saint’s graveyard still holds stones marked only as modern, leaving the dead unnamed and the dates uncertain. The headstone in the south-west corner is a low, thin slab of limestone, earthfast and unmarked, yet it stands beside older graves as if belonging to the same endless conversation. Perhaps it is a visitor, a keeper, or a forgotten child of the island; the stone does not argue, it waits.

Situated in the SW corner of the ‘Saint’s Graveyard’ (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra and named ‘Mod. Stone’ on Macalister’s plan (1916-17, pl. XV). A low, thin, roughly rectangular, earthfast limestone gravemarker (H 0.49m; L 0.53m; T 0.06m). There is no visible decoration or inscription and the date of this gravemarker is uncertain.
