Conwal graveyard in County Leitrim holds two flat stones marked 1722 and 1729, the second identifying Hugh McLean through a worn inscription that still spells his name and death date. The earlier stone carries a horseman carving and false-relief lettering, suggesting a craftsman proud enough to shape shadow instead of chipping every line. Neither marker rears upward to demand attention; both lie across the grave like hands folded on a table, waiting for rain to erase what pride recorded.

Within Conwal graveyard LE003-008002-) is a grave-cover or prone headstone (LE003-008004-) with the date 1722, a carving of a horseman, and an inscription in false relief within a border. A second prone headstone (dims 1.1m x 0.6m) was identified and recorded by Gary Dempsey who reads the worn inscription as: HERE LYET THE BODY OF | HVGH McLEON WH |O DYED THE SIXTH |OF MARCH | ONE T| HOVSAND SEVE | N HVNDRED AND |TWENTY NIN |E 1729.
