Hawarden 'Old' Castle

Hawarden 'Old' Castle was built by the de Montalt family in the 13th century and later held by the Earls of Chester. It is important as a medieval stronghold associated with the powerful noble families of north-east Wales and as a precursor to the later, more famous Hawarden Castle.
