What is recorded here

Halfway through the last ice age, people lived beside Tomb 1C at Knowth. They drank from Beaker pots, flew barbed arrows, and cut flint until their hands bled. The mound watched them breathe.

Five concentrations of Beaker pottery, part of Eogan’s Phase 5 – Final Neolithic / Beaker complex dating to c. 2500-2200 BC (Eogan and Cleary 2017, 42), are recorded around Tomb 1C. This is Concentration E, which is a rectangular area (dims 16.5m NE-SW; 10m NW-SE) between the great mound and Tomb 2. The possible structure (ME019-030037-) is against the kerb of the mound but there were also 8 small pits and 2 post-holes. All the pottery was recovered outside the structure and was not associated with any features. There were 100 flints, including a barbed-and-tanged arrowhead, and 446 sherds of Beaker pottery from about 38 vessels were also recovered.
