Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Grimes Graves as Flint Mine (neolithic) - (bronze Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Neolithic flint mine, dated to the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods. It is significant as one of the few known prehistoric flint mining sites in Britain, providing insight into early tool production and resource exploitation.
