Great Calva reaches an elevation of approximately 1,666 feet (508 meters) and is part of the rugged fells of the English Lake District. It is composed mainly of volcanic and sedimentary rocks from the Ordovician period, typical of the region's geological history. The hill is valued for its scenic position and contributes to the character of the surrounding national park.
