Graveyard in Liscartan

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Graveyard in Liscartan hides beside the River Blackwater, marked only by one headstone from the 1760s just south of the parish church. The missing graves may have vanished under grass, water or forgotten time, leaving behind a clean gap instead of a wound. What remains is a small promise that death still belongs to the place, even when the living stop pointing at it.
Situated on a level landscape, at the crest of a slight slope down to the NW SE River Blackwater, which is c. 100m to the NE. One headstone just S of the parish church (ME025-008----) and dating from the 1760s is the only indication of a graveyard. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 16 December, 2014
