What is recorded here
Castlefleming Stubber and Heath hold a tiny obsolete graveyard where unbaptized children were buried, according to Carrigan 1905. The plot measures only seventeen yards square, lacks church remains, and still carries rude head-stones in County Laois. Kilmylan may have been the ancient church of St. Maolan or Milan, suggesting this small burial place marked a much larger forgotten origin.
Reference to a Church (LA027-007002-) and graveyard which was used as Childrens Burial Ground (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 351). This reference was to a church and graveyard somewhere in the townland of Castlefleming Heath or possibly in the townland of Castlefleming (Stubber). Unlocated church and graveyard within these townlands.
Described by Carrigan as 'There is an obsolete graveyard here, a little to the north of the Great Southern and Western Railway, in Mr. Dowlings 'Churchyard Field'. The burying plot is very small, being only 17 yds. Square; there are no remains of the church. There are some rude head-stones, marking the graves of unbaptized children, who alone have been buried here as far as memory goes back. A little to the west, bordering on Castlefleming, but now in Borris-in-Ossory parish, is the townland of Kilmylan ie. the Church of St. Maolan or Milan. There is no curchyard, nor tradition of such in Kilmylan; but the great probability is , that this townland originally extended over and included all the Castleflemings, and thus the burial-place in Castlefleming Heath would mark the site of the ancient church of Kilmylan' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 351).
