Graveyard in Carlow is a disused burial ground beside St. Mary's church, recorded in a 1675 vestry book as one of two graveyards serving the parish. It may be the smaller of the two, a sub-rectangular patch of soil where ordinary people were laid to rest before the churchyard itself became the main burial place. The distinction suggests a time when death was shared between two grounds, perhaps by family, wealth or circumstance, before one absorbed the other and the other faded from memory.

Sub-rectangular shaped area marked 'Burial Gd. (Dis.)' on the OS 25 inch map (map. dims. c. 10m N-S; c. 15m E-W). The vestry book dating to 1675 records two graveyards attached to St. Mary's church (CW007-018007-) (Bradley and King 1990, 9-10).
