Ballynacourty Church stood inside a rectangular graveyard about one kilometre northwest of Anascaul, witnessing burial and prayer from at least 1584 until ruin took it in 1756. By 1841 the earth had swallowed even its stones, leaving no visible trace. What remains is a ghost of a place, remembered only through the names of people who once gathered there.

Ballynacourty Church: The church is mentioned in the Desmond Inquisition in 1584 and is included in a list of parochial churches in the diocese in 1622 (TCD Ms 2158, 94). It was in ruins by 1756 (Smith, 69) and no trace of it remained in 1841 (OSL). The building stood in a rectangular graveyard c. 1km NW of the village of Anascaul.
