What is recorded here
Graveyard in Ballintemple (phillipstown Upper By.) stands inside an irregular stone wall in County Offaly, Ireland, with a church occupying its northern section. A graveslab dated 1603 was described in the late 19th century but has not been located since, leaving behind a gap the shape of a life. The wall still holds the place together, while the missing slab withdraws into time like a breath not returned.
Church (OF027-001001-) located in N section of irregular-shaped graveyard which is enclosed by a stone wall. Graveslab (OF027-001003-) dated 1603 not located but recorded and described in the late 19th century (Williams 1898, 68; Fitzgerald 1900,92).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
