What is recorded here
Graveslab in Townparks (ballyshannon Ed) preserves the name Jean Banerman, alias Forbes, who died September the seventh 1681 aged 65. That much is clear. The larger story is lost, perhaps deliberately, perhaps merely forgotten. A life reduced to one line on stone becomes both smaller and sharper: young enough to be taken suddenly, old enough to have lived fully, named twice as if identity itself needed proof.
Described in the Urban Survey of Donegal as 'Jean Banerman. 1681 (Bradley & Dunne 1989, 23). This slab is also known only from a nineteenth century accounts. It bore the inscription : HERE LYES JEAN BANERMAN, ALIAS FORBES, WHO DYED SEPTEMBER THE SEVENTH 1681 AGED 65. (Allingham 1879; Mems. Dead, i, 1888-91, 336).
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
