Graveslab in Letterkenny

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Graveslab in Letterkenny marks Isabel Smith, wife of John Boyd, who died in 1671. The stone lies four metres south of the church angle, preserving a personal loss inside a much older burial place.
This church appears to have been built on the site of an earlier 17th century parish (DG053-043001-) church with adjoining graveyard(DG053-043002-) with earliest graveslab (DG053-043003-) dating from c. 1620 (SMR file 1996). Another 17th century graveslab (L 1.72m; Wth 0.80m) dedicated to the Boyd family is located 4m S of the SE angle of the C of I church. This graveslab commemorates the resting place of Isabel Smith wife of John Boyd of Letterkenny who died in 1671. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: : 19 July 2010
